Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSX: PSMC) has announced the temporary closure of its motorcycle plant for three days, according to a notice filed with the Pakistan Stock Exchange. The shutdown, from September 20 to September 22, 2023, is attributed to a shortage of inventory.
Throughout 2023, the Japanese automaker has experienced multiple shutdowns. In the previous month, it declared the closure of its motorcycle plant from August 18 to August 31, which was subsequently extended until September 12. On September 12, another extension was announced, lasting until September 15. Similar shutdowns were reported in July, June, and May, with reasons ranging from low inventory levels to a shortage of raw materials.
Suzuki, Pakistan’s largest automaker in terms of production and sales, has faced significant challenges, including declining sales and revenue, as a result of intermittent production interruptions. Since 2022, industry players have expressed concerns over difficulties in obtaining import permits for their production quotas.
